Troubleshooting

Issue: Vertical alignment of blocks between columns is not working as expected

  • Possible cause:
    • When layout builder blocks are added with no content, or have all of their content removed, they then cannot be removed because there is nothing to hover over to trigger the pencil icon. This can cause alignment issues as these empty blocks are still being accounted for when column alignment is set.
  • Is this the cause of your issue?
    • To know if empty blocks are the cause, go to the pencil icon on a block with content in the column you’re having issues with and choosing move. If there are more blocks listed there for the column than shown in the layout builder, that means there are empty blocks.
  • Workarounds:
    • If you need to top align, move all empty blocks to the bottom; if you need to bottom align, move all empty blocks to the top; if you need to center align, evenly split the empty blocks between top and bottom (if there is an uneven number of empty blocks then will need to use the other workaround)
    • Create a new section just above or below the section with empty blocks, with the same settings as the section with empty blocks, use the move tool to move the blocks with content to that new section
  • Long term solution:
    • Drupal team has a bug ticket in their backlog to provide a way to delete these empty blocks and/or a way to prevent them from being added.
