  • Getting Started:
    • Does the author of your blog have a podvocate page?
      • Go to the content list and search with the author's first name in the 'Title' field and 'Content Type' set to podvocate
        • If there is no podvocate page, start with section 1
        • If there is a podvocate page, but no translation for the language you are working in, start with section 2
    • Once you have added/confirmed a correctly translated podvocate page for your author:
      • Are you doing a brand new blog post? If so, go to section 3
      • Or are you doing a translation of an existing blog post from another language? If so, go to section 4

 

1. How to add a new author

(that is NOT a translation of an existing author - see section 2, "How to translate an author" for translations of existing authors)

  • Go to Content > Add Content > Podvocate (https://omnipod.prod.acquia-sites.com/en-gb/node/add/podvocate)
  • Enter Name
    • Only enter: First name only, First name and last initial, or First/Last name
  • Add a photo as applicable
    • Click 'Add media'
    • NOTE: image must follow the 'pod shape' image guidelines
    • Choose an image if it has already been uploaded for use elsewhere on the site
      • Use the 'Name' field to search for the image, such as by searching for "pod-shape"
    • Or click 'Choose Files' to upload a new image
      • Select your image and click 'Open'
      • IMPORTANT: Image files need to be named properly before being uploaded -- Always start with 'pod-shape' and then include some descriptors, such as:
        • pod-shape_podder-first-name-last-initial_photo-location-descriptors_<image size in pixels - width x height x ppi>.jpg
        • pod-shape_podder-lea_barcelona_group_cafe_330x422x96.jpg
      • Add Alternative text
      • If only adding one image: Save and insert
      • If adding multiple images: Save and select (then repeat above to add next image, click 'Insert selected' when done selecting/adding images)
  • Enter Byline 1
    • Such as "Sponsored Podvocate" or "Podder since 2017" or where they work or their profession
  • Enter Byline 2 as applicable
  • Enter Bio as applicable
  • Enter Quotes as applicable
    • NOTE: to add more than one quote, click 'Add another item'
  • Set Language
    • IMPORTANT: set language here ONLY if this is a brand new podvocate page and is NOT a translation of a pre-existing podvocate page; if you are doing a translation of an existing podvocate page, then DO NOT change the Language, translations must be done via the Translate tab on existing podvocate pages, see "How to translate an author" section
  • Check Published when ready to publish
    • NOTE: link to Author's name in blog post byline will not auto link until the relating Podvocate page has been published
  • IMPORTANT: DO NOT change URL alias, must remain with "Generate automatic URL alias" checked
  • Click 'Save'

 

2. How to translate an author

  • Navigate to existing podvocate page
    • Go to the content list and search with the author's first name in the 'Title' field and 'Content Type' set to podvocate
  • Click the 'Translate' tab on the far right
  • Click 'Add' on the far right of the translation you are adding
  • Confirm that the top of the page says "Create <language you are translating to> translation of <author name>"
  • Change Source Language if needed
  • Update fields as needed (for details on fields see section 1, "How to add a new author")
    • Name
    • Photo(s)
    • Byline 1
    • Byline 2
    • Bio
    • Quotes
    • Published
  • IMPORTANT: DO NOT change URL alias, must remain with "Generate automatic URL alias" checked, this will automatically re-generate for the new language when you Save
  • Click 'Save (this translation)'

 

3. How to add a new blog post

(that is NOT a translation of an existing post - see section 4, "How to translate a blog post" for translations of existing posts)

  • Go to Content > Add Content > Blog Post (https://omnipod.prod.acquia-sites.com/node/add/blog_post)
  • Select a category (can only choose one)
  • Select topics (can choose multiple by holding Ctrl/Cmd while making selections)
  • Enter Title
  • Select Author
    • If the author is not on the list see the "How to add a new author" section
  • Add a Hero Image
    • Click 'Add Media'
    • Choose an image if it has already been uploaded for a different blog, Insert selected
      • NOTE: images uploaded elsewhere on the site will not appear as options here as the blog hero image requires a specific image type
    • Or click 'Choose File' to upload a new image
      • Select your image and click 'Open'
      • Leave the file name as the Name
        • IMPORTANT: Image files need to be named properly before being uploaded -- Always start with 'blog-hero' and then include some descriptors, such as:
          • blog-hero_podder-name_post-topic.jpg
          • blog-hero_sean-busby_big-mountain-snowboarding.jpg
      • Add Alternative text
      • Set focal point if needed by moving the white + sign on the image
        • By default the focal point sets a point as close to the center of the image as possible
        • In the preview box you will only see the center square portion of the image - for images that need a focal point outside of that square, moving the focal point flush left or right will capture the left or right third of the image, same with top or bottom
      • Save and insert
  • Select Hero Orientation to set the hero image to either landscape or portrait
    • Landscape: best for images that are wider than they are tall, image goes full width of the blog post and is placed between the title/byline and the start of the body copy
    • Portrait: best for images that are taller than they are wide, image is set into the top left corner of the body copy
  • Add Body copy
  • Add Disclaimer if needed
  • Set Language
    • IMPORTANT: set language here ONLY if this is a brand new blog post and is NOT a translation of a pre-existing post; if you are doing a translation of an existing blog post, then DO NOT change the Language, translations must be done via the Translate tab on existing posts, see "How to translate a blog post" section
  • Set Publication Date
    • The order of the posts on the main blog page and on the category/topic pages is based on this date, with most recent first
  • Add custom Metatags if needed (in column to the right)
  • IMPORTANT: DO NOT change URL alias, must remain with "Generate automatic URL alias" checked
  • Featured Blog Post
    • If you would like the blog post to be featured in the top three spots on the main blog page regardless of the publication date, under Promotion Options select "Sticky at top of lists"
    • If more than 3 blog posts are featured, the first three features blogs post by publication date in descending order will be shown.
    • Blog posts not visibly featured will be shown in the view below (blog posts not featured).
  • Check Published when ready to publish
  • Click 'Save'

 

4. How to translate a blog post

  • Navigate to existing blog post
    • Go to the content list and search with a keyword or key phrase from the existing blog post title in the 'Title' field and the 'Content Type' set to blog post
    • Click the title of the blog post to open it
  • Click the 'Translate' tab on the far right
  • Click 'Add' on the far right of the translation you are adding
  • Confirm that the top of the page says "Create <language you are translating to> translation of <original blog post title>"
  • Update source language as needed
  • Update fields as needed (for details on fields see section 3, "How to add a new blog post")
    • Category
    • Topics
    • Title
    • Author
    • Hero Image
      • NOTE: Hero Orientation cannot be changed between translations
    • Body
    • Disclaimer
    • Publication Date
    • Metatags
    • Published
  • IMPORTANT: DO NOT change URL alias, must remain with "Generate automatic URL alias" checked, this will automatically re-generate for the new language when you Save
  • Click 'Save (this translation)'

 

5. How to set up blog for new country/language

  • Translate main blog page - manually set URL alias following pattern of your region, translated as needed
    • US: .com/poddertalk
    • AU: .com/en-au/poddertalk
    • EMEA: .com/en-gb/diabetes-hub/blog
  • Translate category/topic pages - manually set URL alias following pattern of your region, translated as needed (NOTE: include 'and' for those with &'s)
    • US: .com/poddertalk/health-and-wellness
    • AU: .com/en-au/poddertalk/health-and-wellness
    • EMEA: .com/en-gb/diabetes-hub/health-and-wellness
  • Ask Drupal dev team to translate taxonomy terms for Blog Category and Blog Topic
  • Ask Drupal team to add URL alias pattern for new country/language
  • Add blog posts
  • Once all blog posts are published, confirm that they are appearing correctly on main blog page and on category/topic pages
  • Add main blog page to menu
    • If main blog page is already on menu, add translation of it for the country/language you are adding
