Alarms and Notifications
While using the Omnipod® 5 System it's important to understand the notifications and alarms. There are different types of notifications and alarms, and some may require action. Read the on-screen message carefully and be sure to take action if instructed.
Hazard Alarms:
- These are high priority alarms that indicate a serious problem has occurred and the Pod may need to be deactivated and removed.
- Respond to hazard alarms as soon as possible as some indicate that insulin delivery has stopped.
- Failing to respond to these can result in high blood glucose (or hyperglycemia) and diabetic ketoacidosis (also known as DKA).
Advisory Alarms:
- These are lower priority alarms that indicate that your attention is needed.
- If these alarms are ignored, they can escalate to a hazard alarm.
Watch the video for step-by-step instructions to learn how to respond to the different types of alerts.
Action Item Notifications:
- These are tasks that need your attention.
- Other notifications such as reminder notifications remind you about an action that you may want to perform — some are generated automatically, and others have settings you can control.
Training is essential and must be completed before using the Omnipod 5 System. As part of this process, you will need to meet with your healthcare provider and visit omnipod.com/setup to complete setup and schedule your required training.
