Update to your Omnipod 5 Controller
In the coming days you will get a notification on your Omnipod 5 Controller to install an update to version 1.2.4. The software update will fix the issue discussed in the recent Field Safety Notification (REF: 9056196-11/22/2023-001-C) for the bolus calculator.
Upon updating your Omnipod 5 Controller to v1.2.4 this issue will be resolved. As per the Omnipod 5 User Guide, it is still important that you confirm the bolus amount is what you require before pressing START.

Prepare for the Update
Before completing the update, it is important to ensure you have adequate battery levels and strong Wi-Fi connection.
- Your Controller battery level must be above 40%, or above 20% if your device is actively charging.
- To be able to download and install the update, you must be connected to a strong Wi-Fi connection. It could take longer to install the update with a weak Wi-Fi connection.
Completing the Update
You will receive a notification on your Controller screen when the 1.2.4 software is ready to install. A two-stage update process will be required to complete the installation. Once the first update is installed, you will be prompted to start the second update. This should last a few minutes depending on your connectivity.
If you are ready to install the update you can select ‘Update Now’ and simply follow the on-screen instructions. If you are not ready to install the update you can select ‘Not Now’ and update at a time convenient to you.
We always recommend installing updates available to you as soon as you are able to ensure you have the latest software.

If you choose ‘Not Now’ you can manually update at any time from the notification menu (bell icon). Otherwise, each time you select ‘Not Now’ a notification will reappear after 72 hours until the update is successfully installed.
To manually update:
- Navigate to the home screen
- Tap the notification bell on the top right of the screen
- Tap the update notification
- Tap Update Now
During the update you will not be able to navigate within the Omnipod 5 Controller, including the ability to bolus. Automated insulin delivery will continue to deliver in the background. This should last a few minutes depending on the strength of your Wi-Fi connection.
Normal use of the Omnipod 5 Controller will resume once the update is complete. The update will not impact insulin delivery settings or your adaptivity from the algorithm.
