If my pateint upgrades to the Omnipod DASH® System, will it prevent them from upgrading to the Omnipod 5 System when it is available?
The choice to go on to Omnipod 5 will depend on a number of factors, from access to the product in your locality, to clinical suitability for the product. Available options should be discussed between the individual, their parent or carer where appropriate, and their HCP at the next planned consultation.
We are aware that four-year warranties on insulin pumps are typically viewed as “lock-in” periods and a potential barrier to patient choice. That’s why we strive to take steps to facilitate flexibility and reduce ‘lock-in’ periods on Insulet’s Pod Therapy technology. Following the CE mark Insulet are working with the NHS to make Omnipod 5 integrated with FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus available throughout the NHS. How can patients get the Omnipod 5 System?
Discuss with your patient at the next planned consultation to determine which products are right for them and if it is decided it is the Omnipod® 5 System, they will need a prescription for both Omnipod® 5 and a compatible sensor.
