Is there smartphone connectivity with Omnipod 5?
No, currently in Europe Omnipod 5 connects with the dedicated controller and not with any smartphone. We are continuing to develop our offering. However, we are unable to comment further with any specific details at this time.
Why does a user need Wi-Fi/Cellular connection for Omnipod® 5?
Connectivity to cellular data or Wi-Fi is important when using the Omnipod® 5 System. Staying connected will allow the user to be notified of important updates as well as allow seamless auto uploading of their data to Insulet’s secure cloud. The provided Omnipod® 5 Controller is equipped with a SIM card that allows the user to connect to cellular data at no cost.
- All updates on the Controller that are considered optional require a Wi-Fi connection. - If users have an immediate bolus, software updates will be delayed until the bolus is complete.
Users should:
Connect ONLY to trusted Wi-Fi networks with the Controller.
AVOID connecting to public Wi-Fi networks (such as those found in airports, coffee shops etc) as these networks are not secure and could result in exposing the Controller to malware.
NOT connect to public Wi-Fi networks during first time setup of their Omnipod 5 system.
