Yes, the commercially available Omnipod® 5 System is now cleared by the FDA for use by people with type 1 diabetes, ages 2+, and by adults with type 2 diabetes, ages 18+.

The Omnipod® 5 System is now indicated for people with type 1 diabetes, ages 2+, and by adults with type 2 diabetes, ages 18+, and may be prescribed immediately. There are no changes to the current prescribing process.

No, we are excited to announce that Omnipod® 5 is now the first and only automated insulin delivery system cleared for use by adults with type 2 diabetes. People can start experiencing the benefits of Omnipod 5 today! In the coming months, we will release a software update that will introduce new features, including custom foods, expanded sensor integrations with the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor, and other enhancements to further improve the customer experience.

Omnipod® 5 is indicated for adults over the age of 18 with type 2 diabetes.

New users will be trained by a certified Omnipod® 5 trainer either in-person or virtually. Additionally, a 30-minute pre-training call will occur before scheduling the training date. The self-guided training option will not be available for adults with type 2 diabetes starting on Omnipod 5, including those switching from other Omnipod products.

To ensure the best possible experience for people with type 2 diabetes starting Omnipod® 5, we will conduct a 30-minute pre-training call to prepare them for their upcoming training, review basic information, and answer any questions. Self-guided training is not available. Instead, live or virtual training with a certified Omnipod 5 trainer will be provided for all adults with type 2 diabetes starting Omnipod 5.

Yes, those new to Omnipod® may be eligible to try Omnipod 5 at no cost. Prescriptions sent to ASPN Pharmacies will be automatically checked for program eligibility. Some customers may not qualify for the free trial program. Free trial is not available to beneficiaries of Medicare, Medicaid, or other federal health care programs, or to members of certain commercial health plans, and those who have tried Omnipod in the past. Omnipod® 5 integration with the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor is not currently available in the U.S., but we look forward to launching it in the U.S. later this year. You may notice the new NDC code listed in your EHR system, but the new Omnipod 5 Intro Kit and Pods for FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor integration are not yet available. We will communicate broadly when they are available.

Omnipod® 5 is covered through the pharmacy for over 90% of people with diabetes and over 70% of prescriptions do not require prior authorization. Dual eligible patients/users pay as little as $0 per month. ASPN Pharmacies will automatically check for coverage once they receive an e-prescription.

Omnipod DASH® remains a great option and will continue to be available for insulin- requiring people with diabetes. However, Omnipod DASH users can now switch to Omnipod® 5, which is the first and only automated insulin delivery system indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes in the U.S. They will need a new prescription for the Omnipod 5 Starter Kit, Omnipod 5 Pods, compatible sensor, and complete any required training. Adults with type 2 diabetes switching from another Omnipod product must meet with a certified Omnipod trainer to complete training before starting.
